Our First Trip with Autumn
Spring break 2018! For Autumn's first Spring Break, we took her to California to visit family, as well as enjoy the beautiful, non-humid California weather.
The overall flight to Sacramento was a little bit complicated... There was a thunderstorm in Austin which delayed our flight by 4 hours. However, Autumn did well during our first connection flight to Denver. We missed our original connection flight, so they had to arrange a new connection flight for us to Sacramento. By the time we got to the Denver airport, it was snowing! It was Autumn's first time experiencing freezing weather, and her opinion seemed to be a rough 1 out of 5 stars. They had to de-ice our plane which stretched our travel time even longer. Autumn was just about done with travel at this point, and voiced her opinion of interstate travel with a mid-flight blowout.
When we finally got to Sacramento, we noticed that our luggage wasn't on the carousel---or anywhere in the state of California. Luckily, they were able to track them down, but we didn't have our stuff the first night. My sister Kelsey was so kind and let us use her stuff until we got our luggage (we also borrowed some clothes from Jordan for Collin to wear). We were so happy and relieved when we got our stuff back.
We had such an amazing time seeing our families. It was Autmun's first time meeting a lot of family members, including her great grandparents (on both sides), Grandpa Carter, Grandma Patty, Uncle Jordan, Aunt Kelsey, and her cousins Abbey and Everett. She made her debut into the extended Wheeler family at an Easter gathering. Of course, she also got to spend more time with Grandma and Grandpa Wheeler, Grandma Carter. You can bet that she got a lot of attention from everyone around her.
It was so neat to be able to watch General Conference with our families. We were so excited for Autumn's first Easter! We celebrated Easter with Collin's family on Saturday and with my family on Easter Sunday. We got to enjoy delicious food, play games, go on walks, and listening to uplifting conference talks. We also received some sweet gifts for Autumn and ourselves. Our cute Auters (a nickname easier said than spelled, pronounced like "otters") loves meeting new people and will smile at anyone. Anyone has said that she is a calm and sweet baby. She did so great during our visit in California.
Our visit was short and sweet. Before we knew it, it was time to say our goodbyes. The trip home went a lot smoother. Despite Autumn getting a little antsy and having a blowout on our connection flight to Austin, it was a good trip. We also got our luggage right away that time!
Even though Autumn had her moments, she was a trooper during the entire trip. She was very patient and didn't cry a lot. When she did cry, she was easy to comfort. She had a good time on her very first trip.
I was reminded during General Conference to always be forgiving. It all starts with family. It's my hope to teach Autumn to be forgiving and to be kind to those around her. I know that our Savior lives and is there for each one of us.
It's always so bittersweet to look back on fond memories of where I grew up. I have such a wonderful family and wouldn't trade them for the world.
