Second Trimester Pregnancy Update

That's right, folks! I have officially hit the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy. It's crazy how time seems to go faster with your second child. I guess that's what happens when you are constantly chasing around an active toddler. It feels like only yesterday we found out we were pregnant. Now we are only 3 months away from bringing our baby into the world.

We found out the gender of the baby a few months ago. It's a boy!!! With this pregnancy, we kept going back and forth with both genders. All along, my instincts were telling that it was a boy. Collin guessed boy too. Sure enough, we were both right! We are so happy and thrilled to have one of each. It will be fun to experience raising both a girl and a boy. More importantly, our baby is healthy and growing well inside me.

The most common questions I get is how I'm feeling. I have felt less nausea throughout the second trimester. The first trimester was tough because I was constantly nauseous and threw up a couple times. I have not thrown up in months which is awesome. I still get queasy nowadays, especially if I smell something that grosses me out. It's funny how pregnancy changes your sense of smell. Overall, I have felt more myself and able to do more activities.

I have had my fair share of food cravings and aversions throughout this pregnancy. They constantly change, but these are my biggest cravings: I have been really wanting watermelon, mangos, juice, potato salad, cherry twizzlers, and ice cream. The foods that easily gross me out are onions, mixed veggies, and steak. Compared the first trimester, I have been tolerating more foods that normally would make me sick.

One of the biggest symptoms I have is tiredness. Growing a human really takes a lot out of you. I am constantly tired every day. As I mentioned earlier, I chase around an active toddler everyday. This is part of the reason why I am always so worn out. Because Autumn sleeps in, I sleep in till around 8:30-9am. It's nice, but I feel like I sleep too much. I also take naps a lot more than I normally do.

My moods have definitely been all over the place lately. I blame it on pregnancy hormones. They really do a lot to you. Because I am so tired, I get easily cranky. If Autumn tries to push buttons, I try not to lose it with her. I just take a deep breath and try to stay calm with her. Every once in a while, I cry over the littlest things. Sometimes I will watch an innocent kids movie with Autumn and cry over that. I've always been a softie, and having kids makes me even more of one.

The baby bump is definitely noticeable at this point. I started showing at 8 weeks with this pregnancy and it has gradually gotten bigger. A lot of my clothes are starting to feel so tight on me. By 24 weeks, people would ask me when the baby was due. I feel like I am carrying higher than I did with Autumn. The bump kind of looks like a football. It grows more outward than it does wider. I know that I am only going to get bigger now that I am in the 3rd trimester

The baby movement is the best part of pregnancy. I love feeling our baby boy kick, hiccup, and dance around my belly. Sometimes he kicks hard and puts pressure on my bladder. He's an active one for sure. Than again, that's a boy for you. I started feeling movement earlier this time around at 17 weeks. Collin finally felt the baby kick at 24 weeks. It was the sweetest.

In my last blog, I talked how we found out I had a blood clot in my right leg, or a DVT. It was a scary experience, considering I was only 12 weeks and not very far along in my pregnancy. I have been on blood thinners for the past 16 weeks. It's a pain to put shots into my belly, but I am grateful they are helping. Thanks to the injections, my leg is back to normal with little to no pain. I will still need to be on injections until 6 weeks postpartum. The doctors want to put me on a different type of blood thinner by the time I'm 36 weeks. This is to help things go smoothly before childbirth. They also want me to see a hematologist after I have the baby just to check in me.

The 2nd trimester has been much easier than the 1st trimester. I hope I can get through the rest of this pregnancy with smooth sailing. I still have to take the glucose test so I hope I don't get gestational diabetes. (that's another story for my next update.) I think the hardest part will be feeling uncomfortably huge. On the bright side, it won't be long until we meet our sweet baby boy. Everything that we go through for our children is all worth it in the end. I am just happy to have another opportunity to expand on our family.

Back in Easter 2020. I was 15 weeks along.

16 weeks in the beautiful springtime

19 weeks on Mother's Day

 Halfway!

Counting all the votes for the gender of our baby. They were close this time!

Oh boy!!! I found out the gender at my 20 week appointment. Since Collin couldn't be there due to Covid-19, I decided to surprise him. I had him pull out a pajama onesie from a bag. We were both so excited. It was a sweet moment.

We surprised family via video chat. We popped the balloon that was the incorrect gender. This was the surprise.

How we surprised everyone on social media. Since we are into baking, we decided to make a cake. Collin made most of it. I mostly made the frosting as well as frosting the cake.

We cut it open to reveal a sweet surprise. It turned out so beautiful.

Our almost complete family. We are getting the best of both worlds!

The best I could get of her, but she is excited to have a little brother.

From our beach trip in Mass. I had just hit 24 weeks.

27 weeks in our 4th of July picture.

I still can't believe I made it this far.
